This freelance role is designed to provide flexible support to full-time agency teams during especially busy times and/or to provide expertise for a specific client. In this role, you will be responsible for pitching and securing media coverage in top-tier publications within the finance sector.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Proactively pitch news/storylines to a variety of media, including print and broadcast at national, regional, vertical, and specialty media outlets 
  • Proactively looks for potential pitching  opportunities 
  • Regular reporting on conversations with members of the media and  feedback on pitches
  • Develop written materials, including PR campaigns and media relations strategies 
  • Leverage/build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to proactively pitch brand and corporate stories through traditional and social media outlets as appropriate
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams as needed and help provide creative solutions to communication problems
  • Provide guidance to ensure coordination and communication of messages/news to both internal and external audiences
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of media programs and communicate results back to business


Requirements:  

 

  • Former experience at a communications agency
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills 
  • Ability to develop strategies based on industry trends and emerging opportunities
  • Strong understanding of the financial media landscape and existing relationships, or ability to build relationships to support client requirements
  • General familiarity with public relations measurement reports 
  • Prior usage of Signal and Cision is a plus but not required. Employer will provide training on the Signal platform
  • Ability to communicate via G Suite, such as Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Access to and familiarity with Slack as a communications channel is preferred
  • Would be beneficial to have experience in using paid social for amplification 
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work independently - ensuring you get the guidance and feedback required to drive results
  • Decisiveness and strong problem-solving skills, especially under pressure
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships
